Watlington Recreation Ground and Skate Park – A Community Hub for All Ages

71, Shirburn Street, Watlington, OX495BZ

Located just off Shirburn Street, the Recreation Ground offers a vibrant space for families, fitness enthusiasts, and the local youth. A standout feature that has become a focal point for community engagement and outdoor activity is the Watlington Skate Park.

The park has recently undergone significant enhancements, including the addition of a vibrant blue bowl adorned with a graffiti-style octopus mural, a mini flat track circle with ramps, and a skateboarding pipe. These features not only elevate the aesthetic appeal but also diversify the skating experience for the user.

Central to the skate park’s evolution is the Watlington Wheels Project, a registered charity dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the facility. Over the past decade, volunteers have been instrumental in keeping the park clean and rideable, as well as offering coaching lessons. Along with support from Watlington Parish Council and a private donation from a resident, the charity raised the remaining funds to make the expansion project a reality.

The Recreation Ground offers a plethora of amenities catering to toddlers, older children and adults –

  • Playground – Equipped with baby swings, climbing structures, slides, a zip wire, and a spider’s web net, catering to toddlers and older children
  • Outdoor Gym – Fitness enthusiasts can utilise the exercise equipment strategically placed around the park
  • Sports Facilities – Includes table tennis tables, a basketball court, and ample grassy areas for football and other games
